The Ferrari 308GT4 was yet another breakthrough for Ferrari. The angular lines of the wedge era and the mid-engined V8 shocked people at the 308GT4's launch. Nearly 30 years later it shocked and even slightly worried Richard when he discovered the frame holding the engine in his one was made from pure rust in the Cheap Italian Supercar Challenge. He wasn't sure if the car could make it round a race track.
Richard's hope combined with the Ferrari's build quality meant that it could make it round a race track. But the 308GT4 Dino didn't get much further, suffering a complete electrical engine failure.

- In Series 7, Episode 4, a yellow 1979 Ferrari 308 GT4 was driven by Richard Hammond as a part of the Budget Supercars Challenge. Clarkson incites that the car is originally called as "Dino" (actually was branded as Ferrari from 1976-1980). In Power Lap, the car was the fastest. In HP test the power is down to 194bhp. to travel to Slough the car fueled limited to 25 litres and had to replaced the spark plugs. Clarkson's Merak broke down and had no brakes. Hammond's 308 ran out of fuel after 10 miles on Slough. May's Urraco succumbs to mechanical failure just a mile to finish. None of the presenters made to finish.
